The Books I Read In May

The Books I Read In May

Hey Booklover!

I really found my reading mojo last month and actually read most days which meant I got through a few books. Here’s what I read in May if you’re looking for some recommendations:

HAPPY PLACE BY EMILY HENRY

If Emily Henry would be so kind as to publish books more than once a year I would be so grateful – because I just cannot get enough. I absolutely loved Happy Place and once again, I found it to be not only an entertaining read but also with quite a deep message which really got to me. Without sharing any spoilers the main character comes to realise that it’s not her responsibility to make other people happy and in fact, she needs to do what it is she wants rather than what others expect of her. I am, like Taylor Swift, a pathological people pleaser so this really got me in the feels. Such a good book.

BETWEEN US BY MHAIRI MCFARLANE

I adore Mhairi’s books and have the publication dates pinned to my wall so I don’t forget them so it absolutely pains me to say that I didn’t love this. It was an enjoyable read but I just didn’t feel like much happened – and then when things did happen, I couldn’t really understand how the choices had been made, it didn’t feel like the groundwork had been laid for those choices to make any sense. I was gutted but every opinion is personal so I would still encourage you to give the book a try yourself.

ONLY LOVE CAN HURT LIKE THIS BY PAIGE TOON

I have read all of Paige’s books and actually her last one fell a bit flat for me so I went into this one a little unsure but I absolutely loved it. Paige is so good at writing emotional reads and this one was no different, I was basically dehydrated it made me cry so much. There’s a bit of a twist which I did not see coming and which I felt was so well handled. If you want a weepy romance then this should definitely be on your list.

ROOMIES BY CHRISTINA LAUREN

I wasn’t sure where to go after reading Only Love Can Hurt Like This but then I saw this at the library that day and it had been on my wish list for a while. I devoured this one – I started it at midday and finished it at midnight (with dinner making and kid bedtime in amongst that!). I absolutely loved this book, it’s funny, romantic and with lots of the favourite tropes in there such as strangers to lovers and forced proximity. I highly recommend this one.

THE HONEY DON'T LIST BY CHRISTINA LAUREN

Having had such success with Roomies, I decided to read all the Christina Lauren’s that I haven’t yet read and moved onto this one. I did enjoy it but it didn’t grip me like Roomies did. I felt the ending was a little too convenient rather than having been built up to but that’s not to say I disliked it – I just don’t think this will be one to stay in my mind for long.

Phew – I am so pleased to be reading so much more and excited for what I am going to read in June. I went and brought more books yesterday (of course I did, it’s not like my TBR didn’t have plenty already!) so I look forward to coming back next month to tell you all about them.
